A Higher Calling – An Interview with Elias

A Higher Calling - An Interview with Elias
Elias is a local artist to the Columbus music scene that takes the craft of hip-hop as more than a hobby. In this interview, we sit down with Elias to talk about what inspires his music, where he finds his support and the importance of showing Christ in everything he does.

Every musician got their start somewhere. When did you feel that God had given you a gift to write and perform hip-hop?

I started writing worldly music at the age of 10 and performing around the age of 16. But I didn’t understand it was a God given talent until the Lord cause me to be born again to use it for His glory until 22 years of age.

Monday Motivation: Fear of the Unknown

Monday Motivation: Fear of the Unknown
During our twenty’s, life changes at an alarming pace. One day we’re sitting around with friends talking about the future, the next day we’re having to face the reality of making life decisions head on. For some of us, flipping a coin is a great way of getting out of the decision making process. For others, making a decision means the possibility of failure or disappointment.

It’s this fear of indecision that can paralyze our lives. The questions bounce around in our head: What if this job isn’t the best around? What if I don’t do well when I start college? What if I can’t find the right church? What if I move and don’t like the new town?

Monday Motivation: My neighbor, my brother

We’re all human and I think that we can agree that people get a boost of confidence when doing good for others. Serving others is something that all followers of Christ have been called to do. Jesus didn’t ask us to serve if we feel like it or to serve when we get around to it. Being a servant was the model that Christ lived out to the community, His disciples and to everyone reading scripture.

I believe that as Christians we find it easier to serve the stranger then we do the people in our everyday life. We volunteer to serve at the homeless outreach, the local food shelter and the nursing home. We take minutes or hours to do things for the strangers and leave with a feeling of accomplishment.

Monday Motivation: Feeding the Hunger

Anyone who knows me knows I love Aviation and all things about the industry. It has taught me patience, that there’s nothing set in stone, and to go with the flow.

The biggest thing I had to learn is probably the most important, to constantly keep myself ‘fed’. Early on I found out I could literally starve while working, because the airline industry doesn’t add in Lunch breaks. And I didn’t want to listen to everyone telling me to pack a lunch bag.

I Failed, So What’s New?

We’re two weeks into 2013 and the resolutions that you wrote down haven’t gone as well as you had hoped. The workout routine kinda stalled when you realized that you forgot your earbuds at work and you can’t workout without music. Your resolution to be more Christ-like took a detour when you gave an 80 year old the bird for cutting you off in traffic. The idea of eating better looked great on paper until you found Dorito’s “Buy One Get One Free”. So you’ve failed, what’s new?

We all deal with failure differently. Some of us beat ourselves up while others decide to throw away any progress when things look rough. Failure is a fact of life and something that we all face on a daily basis. Even in the midst of failure there is hope!
